Feeders are a vital part of any hive, helping sustain your colony when natural nectar and pollen are scarce. Supplemental feeding supports colony growth, stimulates brood rearing, and prevents starvation during critical times, especially late fall.

The Lyson R.A.P.I.D. Top Polystyrene Feeder provides your bees with safe and convenient access to food while keeping it well protected. Unlike external feeders, this top-mounted design minimizes robbing and contamination risks—ensuring only your bees can reach the syrup.

Built with metal mesh bee ladders to prevent drowning and a center divider that creates two compartments, each holding 7.75 quarts, it reduces refill frequency while offering flexibility. The durable, lightweight polystyrene construction ensures long service life, and the smooth interior makes it easy to clean and maintain. Supplied unpainted, it can be finished with a protective paint of your choice to extend longevity.

How to Feed Sugar Syrup

  • Spring Feeding: Mix 1:1 syrup — 1 lb. water (2 cups) to 1 lb. sugar

  • Fall Feeding: Mix 2:1 syrup — 2 lb. sugar per 1 lb. water

Feeding Tips

  • Use very hot water to dissolve sugar completely

  • Do not feed syrup when bees cannot take cleansing flights

  • Wait until weather is warm enough for bees to fly before feeding syrup

  • If temperatures remain too cold, use winter patties instead

  • Pollen patties can stimulate colony buildup before spring, but don’t introduce them too early—rapid brood expansion may leave too few bees to keep the brood warm
