Feeders play a vital role in hive management by providing supplemental nutrition when natural forage is scarce. They help strengthen colonies, promote brood rearing, and ensure adequate food reserves during critical times—especially late fall when nectar sources are limited.

The Lyson R.A.P.I.D. Plastic Top Feeder sits on top of the hive for easy refilling and can hold up to 2 gallons (7.5 L) of sugar syrup. It features five bee access points—a central textured cup and one in each corner—so bees can reach syrup from multiple angles, even if the hive is slightly tilted. The textured surface inside the cup helps bees climb safely in and out, reducing drowning risk.

Constructed entirely from high-quality, hygienic plastic, this feeder is durable, lightweight, and easy to clean with hot water. It’s designed for long-term use and reliability, making feeding more efficient for both the beekeeper and the colony.

How to Feed Sugar Syrup

  • Spring Feeding: Mix 1 lb. water (2 cups) with 1 lb. sugar for a 1:1 syrup

  • Fall Feeding: Mix 2 lb. sugar with 1 lb. water for a 2:1 syrup

Feeding Tips

  • Use very hot water to dissolve sugar thoroughly

  • Avoid feeding syrup in cold weather when bees can’t take cleansing flights

  • Only feed syrup once temperatures are warm enough for regular flight

  • If weather remains cold, use winter patties instead

  • Pollen patties can stimulate buildup before spring flow, but don’t feed too early—rapid brood expansion can leave too few bees to keep brood warm
